Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic touch therapy that cleanses the connective tissue of excess fluid, inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system and reduces pain
What Is MLD Massage?
The lymphatic system is our front line of defence in fighting bodily infections and disease, detoxifying the body and transporting metabolic wastes, excess water, bacteria and toxins out of the body. The lymph nodes (mainly clustered at the neck, armpits, groin, etc.) are connected by a broad network of one-way, valved vessels which transport lymph fluid taken up from the interstitial tissues. Lymph nodes filter and cleanse the lymph fluid of toxins and bacteria.
Muscular or diaphragmatic movement is required to move lymph fluid around the body as there is no “heart” to pump it. MLD enhances lymph circulation through light, gentle, rhythmic touch, circulating immune cells and promoting the filtering out of waste products and toxins via the lymph nodes.
Dr Bruno Chickly confirms that post 24hrs after MLD massage our bodies produce up to 20% more immune-competent cells. The lymphatic system generally circulates around 1.5-2 litres of fluid a day. Post MLD, this figures increases to a massive 15-30 litres. Increased lymph circulation equals increased immunity
MLD Massage is a gentle whole body treatment that refreshes and rejuvenates the body’s fluid, relaxes the nervous system and aids the body’s own immune system.
MLD Massage supports wellness and is highly recommended for those prone to, or recovering from sore throats, colds, infections, ongoing tiredness, excess fluids, low immunity, swollen nodes and the physically inactive. It also aids in the management of, and recovery from, illness and surgery.
