Spinal Flow Technique

Created by former Chiropractor Dr Carli Axford, Spinal Flow is a gentle, non-invasive technique that works with the nervous system to identify and release blockages throughout the 7 gateways of the spine via 33 access points, bringing ease and balance back to the body.

What Is Spinal Flow?

The 7 gateways of the spine surround the most important organ of the body – your nervous system. Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord and millions of nerves. When there is full movement and flexibility in the spine, the nerve signals can flow out and supply the organs, tissues and cells of the body.

As the nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system in the body, when a blockage occurs, messages from the brain are unable to reach the source and pain, illness and dis-ease may occur.

Everyday activities can cause spinal bones to lose their normal position or motion, which can result in nervous system dysfunction and ultimately ill health. The Spinal Flow Technique helps the nervous system detect, reduce and prevent blockages in the spine and create more ease in the body.

“The 7 gateways of the spine tell us so much about how a person has lived and experienced life, but more importantly where they hold stress” – Dr Carli Axford

The Spinal Wave

The core of Spinal Flow Technique is the Spinal Wave.

Using a precise touch on access points located around the skull and spine activates the Spinal Wave, creating a soft wave like motion along the spine. This wave stimulates the release of physical, emotional and chemical blockages along the spine.

We all have a Spinal Wave inside of us and by increasing this wave throughout the entire spine enables the nervous system to find, release and correct spinal nerve blockages, bringing back balance and healing to the body.

Without these blockages our bodies are healing machines!

BLOCKAGES AND STRESS IN THE BODY

Spinal nerve blockages are areas of hardness in the spine which are caused by unprocessed emotional, physical and chemical stress. Stress from past emotional traumas, the chemicals we live with, and physical stress for example from from accidents or repetitive strain can all be released using Spinal Flow Technique.
By releasing stress stored in the spine, a Spinal Flow Practitioner helps restore the flow of healing Life Force Energy through every vertebrae in the spine and to every cell in the body.
“In my experience, stress is the number one cause of pain and symptoms like depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, sleep problems and digestive issues,” Dr Cali Axford

The Spinal Flow Technique guides the body to naturally find and release stored stressors from the body allowing it to move from a sympathetic (fight/flight/freeze) state into parasympathetic (rest and digest) healing state.

There is an innate intelligence inside every human body to grow, repair and heal itself. Just as our gut digests our food, our hair grows and our heart beats naturally, our bodies know how to harness this innate intelligence – or Life Force Energy – to heal and grow.

BENEFITS OF SPINAL FLOW?

Spinal Flow offers several potential benefits for the nervous system and overall health:

  1. Reduced Stress and Tension: By releasing physical tension in the spine, the technique may help lower stress levels, promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. This reduction in stress can positively influence the autonomic nervous system, reducing the fight-or-flight response.
  2. Improved Communication: Aligning the spine can enhance communication between the brain and the body, potentially leading to better coordination and function of various bodily systems.
  3. Enhanced Energy Flow: The technique aims to restore the flow of energy within the body, which may improve vitality and overall well-being. Many individuals report feeling a greater sense of balance and harmony after sessions.
  4. Pain Relief: By addressing spinal misalignments and tension, Spinal Flow may alleviate various types of pain, including back pain, headaches, and discomfort associated with stress.
  5. Emotional Release: Since the nervous system is closely tied to emotions, Spinal Flow may facilitate the release of stored emotional trauma or stress, leading to improved emotional health and resilience
  6. Increased Mind-Body Connection: Spinal Flow encourages individuals to become more aware of their bodies, fostering a deeper connection between physical sensations and emotional states.

Spinal Flow offers a holistic approach to enhancing the health of the nervous system through spinal alignment and energy flow. By promoting relaxation, reducing tension, and improving communication between the brain and body, Spinal Flow can support overall well-being.

WHAT TO EXPECT

INITIAL VISIT
The initial visit usually takes around 75 – 90mins this includes:

History and Examination

  • A thorough review of your medical and lifestyle history, current health concerns, and future lifestyle and health goals.
  • An examination, reviewing your standing posture, movement through the spine, as well as palpation of the spine and surrounding tissues completed while lying on the treatment table. This enables me to pinpoint the locations of your spinal blockages.

Feedback of findings and discussion of expectations

  • A detailed explanation of what I have found in your assessment will be discussed. I will then discuss what the Spinal Flow Technique is, its principles and how it works.
  • I will discuss what happens during the session, and some reactions/sensations that you may experience as blockages are released.
  • Blockages are Physical, Chemical or Emotional and as these move out of the body, there may be some releases occurring during the session.
  • Emotional release – some deep emotions may be felt during the session, these are coming up to be released so know you are in a safe place to express these.
  • During the session a profound sense of peace and relaxation is experienced.
  • You may feel a release of both physical tension and emotional stress during a session resulting in a sense of lightness and emotional freedom
  • As you become more attuned to the sensations in your body you’ll develop a heightened sense of body awareness. This awareness extends beyond the session and empowers you to make conscious choices that support your wellbeing.

Hands on Spinal flow session

  • Spinal Flow session will then take place. This is a gentle technique which involves soft touch activations on 33 specific access points located around your head and spine. Once the Spinal Wave is activated the flow of energy increases through the spine and stored tension, stress and blockages start to release.
  • These gentle touches are non-invasive and are performed while you are lying face down on the massage table fully clothed. (Please where soft lose fitting clothing for best results, no jeans or tight Lycra gym leggings please.)

Feedback after your session

  • After the session we will discuss what was experienced and any insights gained, plus what I observed during the session and any changes or improvements found post session.
  • I will then recommend ongoing sessions based on my findings.

AFTER YOUR FIRST VISIT

Aftercare
It’s important to drink lots of water after your session to flush the body, you may experience the need to go to the bathroom more and this is normal. It is also recommended to go for a gentle walk as sacral bolsters are used in the session to balance pelvic disfunction.

Temporary Discomfort
You may feel great after your first session, you may feel lousy or feel just the same, all these reactions are normal, so please do not hold onto to any expectations to what might/should happen. Every body reacts differently, and every session may feel very different, so be ok with being ok with how your body feels during and after your session.
Discomfort that may be experienced could include:

  • Joint and ligament discomfort as the body adjusts to its new position after realigning.
  • Mild inflammation may also occur as the body responds to natural adjustments.
  • With larger postural changes your body is still adjusting to its new position which may create some temporary discomfort.
  • There could also be a release of toxins which can lead to headaches and mild achiness.

Emotional Release
As emotional blockages are released some individuals may experience emotional releases during and after the session. This could be joy, a sense of relief or sadness, or despair. This is normal and is your body’s way of releasing stored stress, please allow it to happen and be kind to yourself through this process.

PACKAGES

To create permanent change and get the best results fast, sessions are best carried out in quick succession (the frequency depends on your personal assessments).
As the body adjusts and changes, each session builds on the last until the changes experienced are held firm in the body. Free re-assessments are completed after the 12th session, includes before and after postural photos.
